Elon Musk's transgender daughter wants to leave the US over Trump's election win
Vivian Jenna Wilson, who was born Xavier Alexander Musk, filed a petition to change her name and gender identity in June 2020.
The 18-year-old said in the petition that she no longer wished to be associated with her birth name or gender because they "no longer reflect who I am".
Wilson's request was granted by a California judge in September 2020.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Wilson said that she plans to leave the United States in the wake of Trump's election win.
"I don't feel safe in this country anymore," Wilson said. "I don't feel like I have a future here."
Wilson is not the only transgender person who is feeling unsafe in the United States.
According to a 2021 survey by the National Center for Transgender Equality, 40% of transgender people in the United States reported experiencing discrimination in the past year.
The survey also found that transgender people are more likely to experience violence, poverty, and unemployment than cisgender people.
Wilson's decision to leave the United States is a reminder of the challenges that transgender people face every day.
It is also a reminder of the importance of creating a more inclusive and welcoming world for transgender people.
