FC Needs "Major Help": Return to FC Köln? Podolski Reveals His Future Plans
After his move to Gornik Zabrze in 2021, former FC player Lukas Podolski is now talking about a possible return to his former club 1. FC Köln.
Podolski recently revealed in an interview with the "Express" that he could imagine returning to Cologne if a top position were to be offered to him.
"You can never say never in football," said the 2014 world champion, "If the FC needs major help, I'm always there."
Podolski played for FC from 2003 to 2006 and again from 2009 to 2012. During this time, he won the DFB Cup with the "Billy Goats" in 2012.
After his departure from Cologne, Podolski played for Arsenal, Inter Milan, Galatasaray and Vissel Kobe, among others, before moving to Gornik Zabrze in Poland in 2021.
Podolski's contract in Poland runs until 2023, but the 37-year-old has already indicated that he could end his playing career in the summer.
"I'm not getting any younger," said Podolski, "I'll soon be 38 and I have to see how my body reacts.
If Podolski were to return to Cologne, he would follow in the footsteps of other former FC players who have returned to the club in a management role, such as Horst Heldt and Stefan Ruthenbeck.
Whether Podolski will actually return to FC remains to be seen, but his statements have certainly fueled speculation about a possible comeback.
