Frankfurt withdraws new trams
The Frankfurt transport company (VGF) is withdrawing its new trams from service. The reason for this is a technical defect in the door system. This was announced by the VGF on Thursday morning. The trams will not be used until further notice.
The defect concerns the door control system. In some cases, the doors do not close properly. This poses a safety risk for passengers and other road users. The VGF is currently working on a solution to the problem. It is not yet known when the new trams will be back in service.
The withdrawal of the new trams is a setback for the VGF. The company had only recently put the first of the new vehicles into service. The new trams are more modern and spacious than the old ones. They are also equipped with air conditioning and a passenger information system.
