Man Utd vs Leicester referee is VAR official who sanctioned Bruno Fernandes red card
Damir Skomina to take charge of Premier League showdown
Damir Skomina will be the referee for Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Leicester City on Saturday, the Football Association has confirmed.
Fernandes was sent off for a reckless challenge on Leicester’s James Justin in the FA Cup last season
The Slovenian official was the VAR official who sanctioned Bruno Fernandes’ red card in last season’s FA Cup quarter-final between the two teams.
Fernandes was dismissed for a reckless challenge on James Justin and will be looking to avoid a similar fate at Old Trafford this weekend.
Skomina has a reputation for being a strict disciplinarian, having shown 25 red cards in 70 Champions League matches.
However, he has also officiated some of the biggest matches in world football, including the 2019 Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham.
Skomina will be assisted by assistant referees Jure Praprotnik and Robert Vukan, with Matej Jug as the fourth official.
The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will be Stuart Attwell, with Simon Bennett as the Assistant Video Assistant Referee (AVAR).
