Premier League: West Ham, Everton Turn Draws Into Wins
West Ham Back on Winning Ways
Michail Antonio has been at the centre of everything good about West Ham United of late, and the Jamaica international helped inspire a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at London Stadium on Sunday.
The forward's persistence earned the Hammers a 48th-minute spot-kick, from which Jarrod Bowen made no mistake in drilling his effort straight down the middle and beyond the reach of Jose Sa.
The lead was doubled shortly after the hour mark as Said Benrahma picked out Bowen with a delightful pass, before the winger crossed for Gianluca Scamacca to head home a third Premier League goal of the campaign.
Improved Performances
Goals have flowed more regularly for West Ham in recent weeks, with 10 found in the previous four fixtures. David Moyes' men have lost only one of their last six league matches, with that defeat coming in controversial fashion at the hands of Chelsea in midweek.
The upturn in form has propelled the Hammers to within a point of the top half of the table, and Moyes will be confident that his team can continue to climb up the standings with a favourable run of fixtures to come.
Late Goals for Toffees
Everton avoided a third successive defeat in the Premier League on Saturday, as Neal Maupay and Dwight McNeil struck second-half goals to secure a 2-1 triumph at home to Southampton.
Joe Aribo fired the Saints ahead with a rasping effort inside the opening 45 minutes, but Maupay levelled matters with a clever backheel 10 minutes after the interval.
The winner arrived in the final minute of normal time, as McNeil latched on to Tom Davies' pass before firing a cool finish beyond Gavin Bazunu and sparking wild celebrations at Goodison Park.
Improved Performances Under Dyche
The victory was Everton's second under the guidance of new manager Sean Dyche, and the former Burnley boss will be delighted with the way his players responded to going behind against Southampton.
The Toffees remain in the bottom three, but they are now just a point adrift of safety and will be confident of extending their stay in the top flight under the stewardship of their new coach.
