Relieved West Ham Pass Everton Test to Ease Pressure on Moyes
West Ham United 2-1 Everton
Goals: Benrahma (16), Bowen (55) - Gray (23)
West Ham eased the pressure on manager David Moyes after goals from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen secured a vital 2-1 victory over Everton in the Premier League. The Hammers had been in dismal form, losing their last four league games without scoring, but they showed great character to come from behind and claim all three points.
Benrahma gave West Ham the lead with a fine individual effort in the 16th minute, but Everton were level seven minutes later through Demarai Gray. However, Bowen restored the hosts' advantage 10 minutes into the second half and they held on for a much-needed win.
The result lifts West Ham up to 13th in the table, while Everton remain in the relegation zone. Moyes was delighted with his team's performance, saying: "I'm really pleased with the players. They showed great character and determination to come from behind and win the game.
“We've been under a lot of pressure in recent weeks, but we've always believed in ourselves. We knew that if we could get a win, it would give us a huge lift. Hopefully, this is the start of a good run for us."
Everton manager Frank Lampard was disappointed with his team's performance, saying: "We didn't play well enough today. We gave West Ham too much space and time on the ball, and they punished us for it.
"We need to be better than that if we want to stay in the Premier League. We have a tough run of games coming up, but we need to start picking up points soon."
