Unrest Over Malen's Future at Borussia Dortmund
Wants Out: Donyell Malen Seeks Departure from Die Schwarzgelben
Donyell Malen, the Dutch forward who arrived at Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021, has expressed his desire to leave the club.
Malen, 23, joined Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven for a fee of €30 million. He scored nine goals in 32 appearances in his first season with the Bundesliga giants.
However, Malen has struggled to replicate that form this season, scoring just one goal in 15 appearances.
Disgruntled Malen Voices Frustration
Lack of Playing Time and Frustration with Role
Malen has voiced his frustration at his lack of playing time and his role within the team.
The Dutchman has primarily been used as a backup to Karim Adeyemi and Sebastien Haller this season and has expressed his desire to play more regularly.
Malen's agent, Mino Raiola, has also been vocal in his criticism of Dortmund, claiming that the club has not kept its promises to his client.
Dortmund's Stance
Dortmund Reluctant to Let Malen Go
Dortmund, however, are reluctant to let Malen leave, especially in the January transfer window.
The club has invested heavily in the Dutchman and believes that he has the potential to become a key player for them.
Dortmund are also concerned that selling Malen in January would weaken their squad depth, especially with Adeyemi and Haller both currently sidelined through injury.
Negotiations Ongoing, Conclusion Uncertain
Negotiations between Malen and Dortmund are ongoing, but it remains to be seen whether the two parties can reach an agreement.
Malen is determined to leave, but Dortmund are reluctant to let him go. It is a situation that is likely to continue to rumble on throughout the January transfer window.
