Virus rampant: Entire Austria is declared a risk area
Coronavirus infections continue to rise rapidly in Austria. The entire country will now be classified as a risk area.
The number of coronavirus infections in Austria has been rising rapidly in recent weeks. As of Monday, there have been more than 8,000 confirmed cases in the country. The vast majority of cases are in the province of Tyrol, but cases have also been reported in all other provinces.
In response to the rising number of cases, the Austrian government has decided to declare the entire country a risk area. This means that all travel to and from Austria is now strongly discouraged. Travelers who do enter Austria will be required to undergo a 14-day quarantine.
The Austrian government is also taking other measures to slow the spread of the virus.
These measures include:
- Closing all schools and universities
- Banning all public gatherings of more than five people
- Closing all non-essential businesses
- Ordering all residents to stay at home except for essential activities
The Austrian government has also announced a financial aid package for businesses and individuals affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The package includes:
- €10 billion in loans for businesses
- €5 billion in grants for small businesses
- €3 billion in unemployment benefits
The Austrian government is urging all citizens to follow the rules and stay home to help slow the spread of the virus.
