WNBA Star Satou Sabally Signs with New York Liberty
Former Oregon standout joins Liberty after three seasons with Dallas Wings
Sabally, a 6-foot-4 forward, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft
The New York Liberty have acquired forward Satou Sabally from the Dallas Wings in a three-team trade, the teams announced Saturday.
Sabally, 24, is a three-time All-Star and was named to the All-WNBA Second Team in 2021. She averaged 13.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game last season for the Wings.
The Liberty sent guard Rebecca Allen and a 2023 first-round pick to the Wings in the deal. The Indiana Fever also received guard Victoria Vivians from the Liberty and forward Breanna Turner from the Wings.
Sabally is a native of Germany and played college basketball at the University of Oregon. She was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft by the Wings.
The Liberty are coming off a 13-21 season and missed the playoffs. They are hoping that Sabally can help them return to contention in the Eastern Conference.
The Wings are rebuilding after trading away their two best players, Sabally and All-Star guard Arike Ogunbowale, in the past year.
The Fever are also in a rebuilding mode and are hoping that Vivians and Turner can help them improve on their 5-29 record from last season.
