The International Luge Federation (FIL) has unveiled the teams and qualifying process for the upcoming 2024 Wok World Championships. The event, set to take place in Winterberg, Germany, promises to deliver thrilling competition and showcase the world's top lugers.
Teams Confirmed
A total of 16 teams, representing 12 countries, have confirmed their participation in the Championships. The participating nations include Austria, Canada, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, South Korea, Ukraine, and the United States.
Qualifying Process
To determine the starting order for the Championships, a qualifying round will be held on January 24, 2024. The top 12 teams from the qualifying round will advance to the finals, scheduled for January 26-27, 2024.
Competition Format
The Championships will feature two separate competitions: the Team Relay and the Individual Sprint. The Team Relay will see teams of three athletes compete in a relay format, while the Individual Sprint will determine the world champion in the men's and women's categories.
Defending Champions
The defending champions in the Team Relay are Austria, who won the gold medal in the 2023 World Championships in Oberhof, Germany. The reigning Individual Sprint world champions are Felix Loch of Germany (men) and Jessica Degenhardt of Canada (women).
