CM: Milan to challenge Juventus for Lille star ‘launched by Fonseca’

Calciomercato claim that Lille midfielder Renato Sanches is the subject of interest from both Milan and Juventus, with the Portuguese international having rebuilt his career in France

Sanches has impressed in the two seasons since moving to Ligue 1, with the midfielder playing a key role in Lille’s shock Ligue 1 title success in 2020/21, which was their first league championship since 2010/11

The 24-year-old was named Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year for his performances that season, and has continued to impress in the current campaign, with his displays reportedly attracting the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Sanches’ impressive form is said to have caught the eye of Milan, who are looking to bolster their midfield options, and Juventus, who are also said to be interested in the Portuguese international.

The Serie A giants are both said to be keen on signing Sanches, who is contracted to Lille until 2023. However, according to Calciomercato, neither club is willing to meet Lille’s asking price of €30 million for the midfielder.

That could open the door for a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur all linked with a move for the midfielder in recent months.

Sanches began his career at Benfica, and quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young players in Europe, earning a move to Bayern Munich in 2016.

However, the midfielder struggled to live up to expectations at the Allianz Arena, and was eventually loaned out to Swansea City. After an unsuccessful spell in the Premier League, Sanches joined Lille in 2019.

The Portugal international has since rebuilt his career in France, and is now once again one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe.
