Falklands War hero shows his appreciation
Touching Falklands War reunion
Nola gave each member of the troop one of her special scarves
Falklands War veteran Simon Weston has paid a special visit to the woman who made him a unique gift for the 40th anniversary of his heroics.
In 2022, Nola Wright from Great Barr started making special commemorative woolly scarves for Falklands veterans and their families.
The scarves carried the Union flag and the words Lest We Forget, and Nola wanted to personalise the gifts for each veteran to make them even more special.
For Simon, Nola knitted in a Parachute Regiment badge and parachute wings.
Since completing the last of the scarves and sending them out to the veterans, Nola has been determined to meet some of the soldiers she has helped. Her wish came true when Simon invited her to his home, so she could see first-hand what her gift meant to him.
"When I first heard from Nola, I really didn't expect her to make the effort to come from the Midlands to meet me here in the West Country," said Simon.
"But now I have met her, I feel quite emotional. She is a lovely person and I feel so grateful for her gift.
"This scarf means the world to me -- I've slept with it on every night since I received it."Nola has made more than 1,000 scarves so far, and has given them to veterans across the UK. She has also set up a Just Giving Page and raised more than £16,000 for the Parachute Regiment Charity.
