Mat Sadler frustrated but hails key Walsall attribute after Crewe draw

Walsall boss Mat Sadler admitted his frustration after his side were held to a 1-1 draw by Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road.

The Saddlers took the lead through Andy Williams' first-half header, but Crewe levelled through Charlie Kirk's penalty after the break.

Sadler was left to rue his side's missed chances, but he praised their fighting spirit.

"I'm frustrated because I felt we should have won the game," he said.

"We had some really good chances, especially in the first half, but we didn't take them.

"But I'm pleased with the way the players kept fighting until the end.

"That's a key attribute of this team."

Walsall are now unbeaten in their last four games, and Sadler believes they are making progress.

"We're getting better all the time," he said.

"We're starting to gel as a team, and we're starting to believe in ourselves.

"We're not where we want to be yet, but we're moving in the right direction.

Walsall will host Exeter City in their next game on Saturday.
