“My leg was dead”: How the emergency services brought a 77-year-old from Mallorca to Forchheim
A 77-year-old man from Forchheim had to be flown back to Germany from Mallorca after suffering a stroke. The rescue operation was a challenge for the emergency services.
The man had been on holiday in Mallorca when he suffered a stroke. He was taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery. However, his condition deteriorated and he had to be flown back to Germany for further treatment.
The rescue operation was carried out by the German Air Rescue Service (DRF) and involved a specially equipped aircraft.
The aircraft was able to land on the beach next to the hospital in Mallorca. The man was then transferred to the aircraft and flown to Nuremberg Airport, where he was met by an ambulance and taken to hospital in Forchheim.
The man's family said they were grateful to the emergency services for their help.
The man's wife said: "We are so grateful to the emergency services for their help. They were very professional and caring."
The man's daughter said: "We are relieved that our father is now back in Germany and receiving the best possible care."
The DRF is a non-profit organisation that provides emergency medical services in Germany and around the world.
The DRF operates a fleet of specially equipped aircraft and helicopters that can be used to transport patients from remote areas or from countries where medical facilities are not available.
The DRF also provides training to emergency medical personnel and works to improve the quality of emergency medical care in Germany and around the world.
