Villarreal thrashes Alaves in La Liga home match
Villarreal continued their impressive start to the La Liga season with a convincing 4-1 home victory over Alaves on Sunday.
Gerard Moreno scored twice for the Yellow Submarine, while Alfonso Pedraza and Boulaye Dia also got on the scoresheet. Joselu pulled one back for Alaves, but it was not enough to prevent Villarreal from moving into second place in the table.
Villarreal started the match brightly and took the lead in the 10th minute when Moreno fired home from close range after good work from Pedraza.
The home side doubled their advantage in the 25th minute when Pedraza volleyed home from inside the box.
Alaves pulled one back just before half-time when Joselu headed home from a corner.
However, Villarreal restored their two-goal lead in the 55th minute when Moreno scored his second of the game.
Dia then made it 4-1 in the 75th minute with a fine solo goal.
The win moves Villarreal up to second in the table, two points behind leaders Real Madrid.
Moreno's brace helps Villarreal move into second place

Moreno then doubled his tally in the 55th minute, restoring Villarreal's two-goal lead after Joselu had pulled one back for Alaves just before half-time.
The brace takes Moreno's tally to four goals in three La Liga games this season.
Pedraza and Dia also on target for Villarreal
Pedraza and Dia also got on the scoresheet for Villarreal, with the former volleying home from inside the box in the 25th minute and the latter scoring a fine solo goal in the 75th minute.
Pedraza's goal was his first of the season, while Dia's was his second.
The goals from Pedraza and Dia helped Villarreal secure a comfortable victory and move into second place in the table.
Alaves' struggles continue
Alaves' struggles continued with their defeat to Villarreal, leaving them 18th in the table after three games.
Joselu's goal was their only consolation, and they will now be looking to bounce back when they face Granada next weekend.
